Position Description:

The Technical Writer is responsible for producing defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems. To do this, the Technical Writer must research highly technical subject matter, organizes information from multiples sources, and express technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers. The end result will be to produce technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects developing analytic tradecraft methodologies. The Technical Writer must understand basic concepts (to include basic grammar concepts), responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents. The Technical Writer will assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publication. This will require the Technical Writer to gather technical information, prepares written text and maintain a current internal documentation library.

The Technical Writer must be able to use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio etc. The Technical Writer must also understand basic concepts and write technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity. Additionally, the Technical Writer will prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences. This will require the Technical Writer to prepare and maintain operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications TheTechnical Writer must, under general direction, write technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity. This will include applying concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources. Additionally, the Technical Writer will interpret engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures to understand and blend large quantities of computer related information. Technical Writer must work independently preparing and maintaining highly complex systems, programming and operations documentation, procedures and methods.

 

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Six (6) years technical writing experience in programs and contracts of a similar scope, type, and complexity within the Federal Government is required
  • Skills:

§ Under general direction, responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity

§ Applies concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources

§ Produces defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems

§ Interprets engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures and to understand and blend large quantities of computer related information

§ Researches highly technical subject matter, organizes information from multiple sources, and expresses technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers

§ Produces technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects developing analytic tradecraft methodologies

§ Applies technical manual standard NSA DS-89 to work products

§ Understands basic concepts, responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity

  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph.
